Where else could you find such an assembly of “laid back” spirit than on the football pitch of Downsview Park, where our resident deejay would deftly spin a seamless musical set between football anthems and ‘80s power ballads? How else could one explain the awesome power of a mighty moustache inspiring a league-best winning streak and post-game celebrations that would ensue until the wee hours of the morning? Laidback’s participation in the world’s most popular sport was met with resounding success and an easy camaraderie as new friends were made and existing friendships bloomed on those frosty cold Thursday nights.

Indeed, the inaugural 2008 season of Laidback Soccer exhibited a wonderful reminder of fair team play and friendship. The on-field contributions from all members of the squad new and old left a profound impression shared many times over. Exhibitions of shut down defense, ninja-quick goaltending, Nintendo-like rocket shots on net, and the standout skills exhibited from both guys and gals were commonplace on game nights sprinkled with some of the most fashionably dressed cold weather players this field had ever seen! Winning the championship was to great effect a direct statement supporting the fact that the overall skill of a team pales in significance to the overall fun a team plays with. Congratulations to all that took part in making the first year one for the ages!
