•Why have we started the Laidback Scholarship?

     o Laidback has experienced so much happiness that we want to give back to the community that has been so kind to us. Laidback started off when we were all at similar stages in our lives: finishing up school and entering into the workforce. Consequently, we want to help less fortunate individuals reach this pivotal stage in their lives, so that they may have similarly brighter opportunities in the future.

•Who is Second Base Youth Shelter?

     o Second Base Youth Shelter is the second largest youth shelter in the City of Toronto. They are located in Eglinton East-Kennedy Park - one of the 13 priority neighborhoods in Toronto - and are the only youth shelter between Victoria Park Avenue and the City of Oshawa. Second Base provides food, clothing, and shelter for homeless youth, aged 16-21, while offering them opportunities to become self-reliant within the community. •Who will benefit from the Laidback Scholarship?

     o Youth who are participating in Second Base’s highly successful GED (high school equivalency certificate) preparation program will be eligible for the Laidback Scholarship. These individuals typically come from high-need communities and face such complex issues as conflict at home, disappointment and failure in the school system, poverty, addiction, mental and physical health barriers and conflict with the law. Education forms a critical foundation in helping these individuals find success as they move from the shelter back into the community.

•How much of my money will reach the scholarship fund?

     o 100% of the profits from the sale of the t-shirts will go towards the Laidback Scholarship Fund. The proceeds will be sent directly to Second Base Youth Shelter, who will assist in the management of the scholarship and administration of the funds.

•Will I receive a tax receipt?

     o No, you will not receive a tax receipt. Your support in this endeavour is not considered a charitable donation since you will be receiving an item of equal value in exchange for your monetary contribution. Rather, you will be participating in a social enterprise whereby 100% of the profits from this venture will be allocated to the Laidback Scholarship Fund.
